Victory 1A is a truck driver training school based in Saskatchewan, built to get you from zero experience to a Class 1A licence through the province's Mandatory Entry-Level Training (MELT) program.
Saskatchewan requires all new Class 1A applicants to complete MELT training through an SGI-approved school before they can take their road test. Our 121.5-hour program meets every requirement — classroom instruction, in-cab driving on real Saskatchewan highways, and hands-on yard training including backing, coupling, and pre-trip inspections.

MELT stands for Mandatory Entry-Level Training. Since March 15, 2019, Saskatchewan requires all new Class 1A applicants to complete an approved MELT program before taking their road test. The program ensures every new commercial driver has a baseline level of training covering vehicle operation, safety, and regulations. If you’re applying for a Class 1A licence for the first time, yes — you need it.
The Class 1A MELT program is 121.5 total hours. This is split across classroom instruction (theory, regulations, trip planning, hours of service), in-cab training (city driving, highway driving, rural routes), and yard skills (pre-trip inspection, coupling and uncoupling, backing maneuvers). The program runs over several weeks depending on scheduling.
You need a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s licence to begin the Class 1A MELT program. No prior commercial driving experience is required — the MELT program is designed for entry-level drivers. You’ll also need to pass a medical examination and meet SGI’s vision and health requirements for commercial licensing.
Completing our MELT program makes you eligible to take the SGI Class 1A road test. Once you pass, you’ll hold a Class 1A licence — the highest class of commercial driver’s licence in Saskatchewan, authorizing you to operate semi-trucks and tractor-trailer combinations.
